Arbeitsgruppe Naturwissenschaft und Internationale Sicherheit in der Universität Hamburg

Science has become both a tool and a driving force of the worldwide technology race. This race has a growing impact on the global military and environmental security. In 1988 scientists from different branches of the University of Hamburg - mathematics, physics, computer science and chemistry - have formed a working group on these issues. It is the objective of the group to perform research, to initiate teaching programs and to provide public information.
Teaching projects include a one year course on Disarmament, Arms Control and International Security. The group cooperates locally with the Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker Center for Science and Peace Research (ZNF) and the Hamburg Peace Research Institue (IFSH). Funding has been provided by the Volkswagen-Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Research Foundation. The Group welcomes international cooperation.
